Before We Fly (Part I)

It's that time of that year again, when the brightest and most driven from the local hip-hop community gear up for the World Hip Hop Dance Championships. It used to be a thing for only the Philippine All-Stars, but now -- having brought in more and more dance crews to represent the country -- the competition has become a check off the Bucket List of every Filipino dancer.

This year my team, LSDC-Street, will once again represent the country at the renowned competition's Megacrew division. We have been training long hours and have put through a lot physically, financially, and mentally in preparation for the fete, and I have no doubt that this year will be groundbreaking -- if not for us only, for everyone participating, as well.

Since we only have a couple of days away before we head to Sin City, I thought I'd capture a moment for every day this week that, for me, resembles the heart of my team the most.

The first two photos are moments not from this week of training, but from the first few weeks:

Paozu, Rash, Logs and Jamon
(Seriously, I don't know anyone else who can fall asleep standing up)
Igi, Martin and Paozu
This was on one of those training days where people were especially tired. It's wonderful how so many things can happen with anyone knowing what's going on!

6 DAYS AHEAD

Gege, Igi, DG, Ardee, Jero

If they didn't link arms, one member would fall.

5 DAYS AHEAD

Eunice and a bunch of the Megacrew team
"It's easy to get the players; it's getting them to play together that's the tough part."
- Casey Stengel

Yesterday, a handful of my male teammates approached me as everyone was filling out their insurance forms, because they trusted me with legible handwriting. Sometimes the simplest things (like filling out a form) are help enough for a few.

More photos from the week to come! I can't wait to fly to Las Vegas with this amazing team He's put together.
