Amazing Grace: A Year in the Life of LSDC-Street

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.
- Albert Einsten

When this week began, I had a lot of doubts. I knew that I would miss a lot of class, that I would get a lot of sleepless nights, and that the competition would drag a lot out of me (energy-wise, and in other ways), and I wasn't confident about even getting through the week with excellence.

I had NO doubts whatsoever, however, that my team would perform with utmost happiness during the weekend's UAAP Street Dance Competition Season 74... the last dance competition of the school year that, miraculously, my team (LSDC-Street) became champions of for the second time in a row!

I enjoyed working with this team so, so much. We may have consisted of half newbies and half seniors, but the balance of personality was totally and completely there. I am still so amazed at the way it felt to be back there as defending champions, which was both scary and exciting at the same time. I didn't want my team to come off as too confident or mayabang because who wants to compete against people with so much arrogance hanging above their heads? I was grateful for the opportunity to compete against some of my high school dance friends from other universities, because it made the backstage atmosphere a whole lot lighter.

The whole experience was humbling because my team really did not go into the competition to WIN, but we went there to defend in the sense that we would show the audience a brand new piece with a whole lot of new flavor. It was great to have felt so happy after performing, hugging my teammates backstage and just smiling the whole time after :)

It was a big letdown to be on the stage with other university reps while our teams waited for the results backstage, but to accept that "prize" (which was actually just the envelope that held the championship results) was surreal. I think a few cameras or two (or the Studio 23 TV cam) were able to capture the embarrassing moment of me bawling my face out while accepting the award and shaking people's hands! But embarrassment is totally worth it when it is all for the happiness!

I am grateful. Completely and utterly grateful. Who would have known that something amazing like this could happen for the fifth time? I feel utterly blessed, but most especially thankful for the support of all of my loved ones, friends, university, and fellow competitors (all of whom did AMAZINGLY, by the way).

What a blessing, indeed. My goal is to continue this victory in every which way possible, with all the humility that we can possibly muster! Congratulations to everyone! :)

MARCH 2011

LSDC-Street wins the first ever UAAP Street Dance Competition Season 73! There were a lot of rumors going around that we won just because our university was hosting it, but that is a complete and total lie haha we made sure of it!
