My day was more interesting than usual. Maybe it was the fact that I got home from school when the sky was still bright, which is unusual for someone like me who trains until close to midnight. Or maybe it was the fact that people and conversations held my attention longer than usual.
There is a saying:
"Small minds talk about people,
Average minds talk about events,
Great minds talk about ideas."
I don't really believe in the saying in its entirety, for some ideas may be quite absurd for a few people, while events may be intellectual and knowledgeable. But this saying hovered above me when, after a class group discussion on the Filipino ambahan poetry dwindled down, my group mates and I began to discuss worldly matters, medical implications on television shows, and the ballet as a culture. I was riveted, moved, by the fact that I was conversing so fluidly with people who are pretty much still strangers to me, in the most casual sense, about things that I firmly believe are important. It was a fresh change from the usual gossip mongers I am surrounded by; don't get me wrong -- casual talk with my friends is quite refreshing in itself after loads of Dickinson and Donne discussion -- but it made me blissfully happy. I didn't think something as small as conversation could light up my day. It's keeping me motivated to include unique topics in conversations with random friends. I am curious as to what their insights are on certain things, as well.

Since the dance concert- and competition seasons have died down, I am making it a point to catch up with all of the people I always promise to "hang out soon" with. After class today, I had merienda with my friend Anton in this amazing deli in Serendra. I had heard about his sudden volta in life, and was intent on keeping our friendship at bay. It was a simple afternoon of messy-to-eat roastbeef sandwiches (the best I've had so far, hands down) and my walking style he likes to call "midget routes." After today, I'm thinking of setting up appointments to keep in touch with my friends. If any of you are reading this, hit me up... or I will forget, seriously!

The latest episodes of Glee have been quite bizarre, containing plots that seem forced and even more random relationship entanglements. Last week's episode, which guested Gwyneth Paltrow, was especially lovely for me, considering I love the Dixie Chicks song they sang. Santana brought me to tears! But today, their original "Loser Like Me" hit me hard. My team has brought on numerous haters ever since our unexpected win at the UAAP Street Dance Competition, but everybody has haters, I guess... so we've chosen to keep our heads up and relish our victory.
Yeah, you may think that I’m a zero
But, hey, everyone you wanna be
Probably started off like me
You may say that I’m a freakshow (I don’t care)
But, hey, give me just a little time
I bet you’re gonna change your mind
All of the dirt you’ve been throwin’ my way
It ain’t so hard to take, that’s right
‘Cause I know one day you’ll be screamin’ my name
And I’ll just look away, that’s right
Just go ahead and hate on me and run your mouth
So everyone can hear
Hit me with the words you got and knock me down
Baby, I don’t care
Keep it up, I’m tunin’ up to fade you out
You wanna be
You wanna be
A loser like me
A loser like me
But, hey, everyone you wanna be
Probably started off like me
You may say that I’m a freakshow (I don’t care)
But, hey, give me just a little time
I bet you’re gonna change your mind
All of the dirt you’ve been throwin’ my way
It ain’t so hard to take, that’s right
‘Cause I know one day you’ll be screamin’ my name
And I’ll just look away, that’s right
Just go ahead and hate on me and run your mouth
So everyone can hear
Hit me with the words you got and knock me down
Baby, I don’t care
Keep it up, I’m tunin’ up to fade you out
You wanna be
You wanna be
A loser like me
A loser like me

I absolutely love being able to talk to people about things you are truly passionate about :) A few nights ago, I was invited to this focus group with arch students and working architects to talk about design and Filipino architecture and it was AMAZING.
